Serbian reports suggest that a Chinese tennis dad has been arrested and charged with domestic violence offences after a horrific video surfaced on social media that showed him punching and kicking his young daughter.

The disturbing images appeared to have been covertly captured at an unnamed tennis club in Serbia. They showed the male – who is identified in reports only as WL – walking onto a clay court and abusing his daughter viciously (watch video below).

The report in the Serbian news source Mondo stated that the case was heard “before the First Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade”, and that the man could face a prison sentence of between two and 10 years if he is convicted.

According to the same report, the man had not denied that he was responsible for the attack, but instead tried to explain his behaviour in terms of cultural differences.

As Mondo reported: “Among other things, in his defence, he justified his actions by saying that his daughter refused to continue training on the critical day and that is why he wanted to return her to the field.

“All this while pointing out that it was not his intention to hurt her and that it is a tradition in China to respect hierarchy and that he believes that he did the right thing because it is allowed in China.”

Mondo's account of the case continued by stating that “After the hearing, the acting deputy proposed to the court that the suspect be ordered into custody due to the risk of escape, as well as public disturbance, and considering the manner of execution of the crime he is accused of, as well as the prescribed sanction.”
