CHILLING footage has been released showing the moment a mother confessed to the murder of her five-year-old child.
Ming Ming Chen, 30, from the US state of Ohio, had repeatedly denied killing her young daughter Ashley Zhao, before finally admitting to fatally striking the girl in the kitchen of their home.
Chen and her husband Liang J. Zhao reported their daughter Ashley missing in January 2017, sparking a statewide search for the child.
The couple were arrested a day later when police discovered the five-year-old’s body “concealed” inside their family owned restaurant Ang’s Asian Cuisine in North Canton.
In the video a police officer is seen questioning Chen about her lack of reaction upon hearing that Ashley was dead.
“I know that you’re not crying. You said, ‘I don’t have nothing left.’ Isn’t that what you told me? You don’t have no tears left, you don’t have nothing left. Ming, Ming, your daughter is dead,” he was heard saying on the tape.
The detective pressed her for more information, asking “What happened? How did she die?”
Eventually Chen answered, admitting to the officer that she had killed her daughter.
“I just killed her and then she died,” she said.
Chen said that she became frustrated with Ashley and hit her in a moment of rage.
The little girl had reportedly returned from a trip to China to visit her grandparents and, according to Chen, she had become disobedient while she was away.
“I don’t want to do that to Ashley, but you can’t control yourself sometimes,” she said.
“I need to take care of everything from the restaurant. I only have two hands. I’m not four hands girl, I’m two hands.”
When she realised she had killed Ashley she told her husband, Liang J. Zhao, to “take care of it”.
According to a previous report by ABC5, Zhao allegedly tried to revive the girl before hiding her body in the family restaurant.
Chen was sentenced to 22 years in prison on December 29 after pleading guilty to involuntary manslaughter, evidence-tampering, corpse abuse, child endangerment and obstructing justice.
The 30-year-old woman was originally charged with murder but had it lessened to involuntary manslaughter as part of a plea deal.
Zhao pleaded guilty to charges of obstructing justice, corpse abuse, tampering with evidence and endangering children.
He agreed to testify against his wife and will serve 12 years in jail for the guilty plea.
Chen’s defence lawyer Richard Drucker has previously said that, if the case had gone to trial, they would have argued that Zhao was violent towards his wife and child and was also responsible for Ashley’s death.
“I don’t think she’s a monster,” Drucker said, referring to Chen.
“I think she was a woman that made very poor choices in her life at the time.”
After serving her sentence Chen, who came to the US illegally, will be deported back to her home country of China.
