Federal Liberals bankrolled by man wanted on criminal charges in China
It’s another case of cash for access – but this time it involves a Vancouver donor wanted in China, and Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s Liberal party.
Reporter Ian Young with the South Morning China Post says he received an email from a former party executive claiming the Liberal part was tipped off in 2013 that Michael Ching Mo Yeung was wanted in China.
“Yeung is a Vancouver Real Estate developer, he’s wanted by the Chinese government for alleged corruption.” Young says the former executive claims the Liberal party continued to accept donations from Yeung, dating back to 2007. “In recent years, he’s been very much focused on Justin Trudeau and the Liberals through his friendship through former cabinet minister Raymond Chan.” It’s reported the Liberal party accepted donations from Yeung up until April last year.The former donor is seeking refugee status in Canada. But the Liberal Party of Canada says Michael Ching has never had any official role in the structure of he party.“In past years, Mr. Ching has donated to the Liberal Party of Canada as well as the Conservative Party and a number of other provincial and local campaigns, and he has previously attended events for a variety of political parties,” reads an email to CKNW.The party says all Elections Canada rules have been fully respected.
