A total of 254 suspects from the Chinese mainland involved in telecom swindle cases were sent back to China on Tuesday morning from Indonesia and Cambodia under the escort of Chinese police, according to the Ministry of Public Security.
The suspects are involved in more than 4,000 major transnational telecom frauds related to over 20 provincial areas and Hong Kong, the ministry said in a press release.
These suspects were brought back in the first overseas operation since a campaign targeting new types of telecom crime was launched in China late last month.
282 Chinese police officers, taking 4 charter flights, started a mission to extradite Chinese telecommunications fraud suspects late yesterday. The mission was organized and led by China's Ministry of Public Security.
Two police officers on one of the four charter flights set out from Guangzhou Baiyun Airport to Indonesia. 91 policemen on the second charter flight set out from Beijing Capital International Airport to Cambodia. 73 police officers on the third charter flight set out from Shanghai to Indonesia. 86 police officers taking the last charter flight set out from Hangzhou Xiaoshan Airport in east China's Zhejiang Province to Cambodia.
The aircrafts directly returned to China after the local policemen in Cambodia and Indonesia handed over the fraud suspects.
Some Chinese female police officers are among the ongoing mission, who are mainly responsible for escorting female suspects.
In recent years, China's Public Security Ministry has adopted tough measures against telecom fraud crimes. In 2014 alone, the ministry processed 6 million telecom fraud cases, busting over 3,100 telecom fraud gangs and arresting more than 20,000 suspects.

First batch of Chinese suspects in telecom frauds, extradited from Indonesia, Cambodia under the escort of Chinese police, arrive at Shanghai Pudong International Airport on Nov. 10, 2015.
