A man accused of participating in a frightening sex assault on the UBC campus Saturday has been granted bail with conditions.
Yuan Zhi Gao, 23, has been released after posting a $50,000 bond. Conditions include not going west of Blenheim Street onto the UBC Campus or Endowment Grounds. He is also banned from having contact with with victims or David Singh Tucker, the co-accused in the case.
The Crown has upgraded Gao's charge to break and enter with intent to commit sexual assault. He was previously only charged with break and enter.
Gao's co-accused David Singh Tucker, 28, is facing three counts of sexual assault with a weapon, three counts of unlawful confinement, robbery and disguising his face with the intent to commit an indictable offence.
His bail hearing is scheduled for May 18 in Richmond Provincial Court.
Tucker and Gao were arrested early Saturday morning outside an apartment in the 5700 block of Birney Avenue on the UBC campus.
