A woman was arrested on a charge of kidnapping after allegedly dressing up as a nurse and stealing a baby at a hospital, police in China said.

Hongze police said that they arrested Zhao Juan, after trying to steal a baby because she didn't want to disappoint her family members following the loss of her unborn child.

According to the police investigation, she lost her baby in the early stages of pregnancy because of her own carelessness. She did not notify her family about the miscarriage, and instead plotted to steal a newborn baby from a hospital.

Juan sneaked into the maternity ward of the Hongze Hospital, and stole a baby. She put the baby in her purse and left. Zhao went home, where she faked hers own labor.

An ambulance took her back to the hospital. Police were called to the hospital after the baby's mother identified as Wang Li, realized her child had disappeared.

After reviewing surveillance video, police officers noticed Zhao changing into a nurse uniform before leaving with a bulging purse.

At the hospital, police officers noticed that Zhao showed no physical signs of labor. She was interrogated by police and she confessed.
