Chinese President Xi Jinping confirms US visit
Chinese President Xi Jinping met with US President Barack Obama during an APEC meeting in 2014.Chinese President Xi Jinping will make his first state visit to the United States from September 22 to 25, announced China’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang on Wednesday morning.
The White House later added in a statement that President Barack Obama and the First Lady will host President Xi and Madame Peng Liyuan at an official State Dinner on September 25.
The visit will provide an opportunity to strengthen China-US cooperation on a range of global, regional and bilateral issues of mutual interest, said White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest.
A Chinese Ministry of Commerce spokesman stated that the negotiations on a bilateral investment treaty (BIT) will be an important issue during Xi's visit, believing it is conducive to the development of Sino-US economic and trade relations.
In addition, President Xi will also visit the United Nations headquarters in New York for the first time. He will attend a series summits from September 26-28 marking the 70th anniversary of the UN's founding.
