This newly exposed Chinese espionage case is getting
almost no attention in Canada even though the
accused was the sales conduit between one of our
largest corporations and the top level of the PRC
moneyed elite..... Katrina Leung (her Chinese name
is Chan Man Yin) is newsworthy because of her
taste in FBI agents, two of whom she is taking
down with her.
A week later and the Canadian news media still
ignore this case, although the US Senate is said
to be considering a hearing.
One "ex-CSIS officer" said "That woman is likely to
have caused irreparable harm to many North American
intelligence assets" adding, "Leung's involvement
in Canadian business is being unravelled slowly
as many who have come in contact with her are
rushing to hide or minimise their relationship."
Leung was hired by the Canadian company Northern
Telecom (now Nortel) not because she was an
expert in communications systems, or even
particularly adept at sales, but because she
could get the cash through her accounts and into
the hands of well positioned PRC decision makers.
Her company was named MERRY GLORY LTD. and a
Vancouver paper has noted the coincidence
that "a Vancouver company run by the Chinese
government and used as a cover for its spies
goes by a similar name to that of Leung's firm".
Cheers
