Mirage Appears in South China Over New Year Holidays
Numerous people celebrating the New Year on the coast of Guangdong Province were treated to a five-minute mirage on Feb. 2, the third day of the holidays.
A row of buildings was seen floating above the ocean near the Houhai area of Shenzhen City, and Hong Kong’s TVB station broadcast a clip of the illusion the following evening.
A resident called Mr. Guan and his family, who live by the ocean in Houhai, saw the mirage outside of their balcony window at around noon, according to the Southern Metropolis Daily.
Guan told the media that the bay there was covered with mist. Suddenly, the row of tall buildings loomed through the clouds, and he called his family over to take a look. They reported seeing a line of dark buildings in front a mountain range with a white cloud at the base.
Guan believes that seeing the mirage at the beginning of the New Year means that it will be a prosperous one.
Many other locals also witnessed the mirage, taking photos and writing about it on their microblogs.
