Supreme Court for a jail or financial penalty sentence after Wu was found in contempt of a 2003 court order that prohibited him from practising dentistry. (College of Dental Surgeons of B.C.)
VANCOUVER - The College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia is offering a $2,000 reward for information on the whereabouts of illegal dentist Tung Sheng (David) Wu.
Wu is accused of practicing dentistry without a license from his Burnaby, B.C., home and using unsanitary equipment for his cut-price appointments.
In 2003, he was banned from practicing through a court injunction and managed to avoid prison by saying he would leave the country.
Last week, however, the college revealed it had again caught Wu taking patients. On Monday, a warrant was issued for his arrest when he missed a court appearance.
“If you know where this individual is, phone the authorities,” Jerome Marburg, the college’s CEO said.
While he wouldn’t go into details, it is known Wu was still practising in May, yet the public wasn’t alerted until August.
The college is now urging his patients, believed to number about 1,500, to get tested for diseases such as HIV and hepatitis that could have spread through unsanitary instruments.
Marburg said it’s believed Wu is still in the Vancouver area and could be working towards setting up another practice.
“This individual obviously has resources to re-supply and I think that’s what’s going on,” he said, adding he was speculating.
On Tuesday, Wu’s car containing dental equipment was found abandoned on Vancouver’s Mitchell Island
