Jackie Chan's son, singer-actor Jaycee Chan was, arrested last week for drugs in the biggest drug bust in the Chinese capital. The blockbuster action star Jackie Chan finally released a statement to the public in his website, expressing how he felt after his son, Jaycee, was arrested in Beijing for drug-related charges.
"First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for your care and concerns. The recent news about my son, Jaycee, is very shocking and the impact it has caused on society is heartbreaking," the martial arts legend shared in the statement.
"When I first heard the news, I was absolutely enraged. As a public figure, I feel very ashamed; as his dad, I'm very sad and disappointed. But the person who feels heartbroken the most is his mom. I hope our younger generation will learn from Jaycee's mistake and stay far away from drug abuse."
The elder Chan was named as an anti-drug ambassador for China back in 2009.
Jackie Chan's son also got a message from his father: "You've done something wrong and you have to be responsible for the consequences. I'm your dad and I'll always be with you. We will face the road ahead of us together."
But, the movie star admitted in the statement that he was also to blame for the incident, and apologized to his fans and supporters. "I should also take some of this responsibility because as his dad, I didn't teach him well. Therefore, on behalf of Jaycee and myself, I extend our deepest apologies to everyone for the negative impact this has caused on society. Thank you."
Jaycee Chan, 31, together with the 23-year-old Taiwanese star Ko Chen-Tung or more famously known as Kai Ko, are now facing drug-related charges.
Reports from the police stated that the two celebrities both tested positive for drug use. Later on, they admitted using marijuana. A hundred gram pack of the drug was also found in Jackie Chan's son's home during the raid.
M'Stones International, Chan's management, also apologized to the public in his behalf. The company also said that they would "supervise his rehabilitation and help him return to the right path."
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Chan has tried but failed to launch a career in film and music. According to reports, he also carried a playboy image in China.
Chinese news wire agency Xinhua reports said that Chan was detained "in suspicion of accommodating suspected drug users."
Meanwhile, Taiwanese star Kai Ko participated in an anti-drug campaign two years ago. CCTV reported that in the campaign, the star, along with other celebrities declared the words: "I don't use drugs."
In CCTV's recent footage however, Ko tearfully apologized to this family and fans."I feel very regretful, very sorry to all the people who support me, I've been a very bad example, I've made a very big mistake," the young star said.
These intense narcotics crackdown follow President Xi Jinping's call to battle against illegal drugs. More than 7, 800 people have been already caught, showing more than 70 percent rise in results in August 2013.
Famous names in Chinese show business have also been caught, which prompted 42 Beijing performing arts associations and theater companies to take an oath that they will not hire actors who would be caught using or dealing with drugs during an event by the Narcotics Control Office and Beijing Cultural Bureau.
