BAKERSFIELD, Calif. Mayor Karen Goh asks residents to come together during troubling time

Mayor Karen Goh asks residents to come together during troubling time

We are here though as the city of Bakersfield to protect both the rights of people to express themselves, the freedom of speech, but we're also here to protect law and order. We're here to protect property and the lives of our citizens," said Mayor Goh.

I also asked about her thoughts on the possibility of more protests happening throughout the coming days.

"There's always a possibility that protests will continue and our law enforcement will do the right thing in protecting freedom of speech, but also protecting order and the safety of our residences and businesses," said Mayor Goh.

Finally, Mayor Goh says that she spent a large portion of today talking to local community and faith leaders trying to coordinate a way that we as a city can move forward and address some of the issues together.

"Let us come together and reconcile those differences. Let us work hard - it's not an overnight fix. It's a long journey, but we're committed to joining our community in making sure that all lives are protected, all citizens are achieving a fair treatment and we can have the community that we desire for all people," said Mayor Goh.
