What a load of rubbish! Chinese city is overwhelmed by tide of garbage

What a load of rubbish! Chinese city is overwhelmed by tide of garbage

  • Streets covered in rubbish near high-rise buildings in Xi'an, China
  • What appears to be old furniture and discarded building materials lie in the street in the capital city of the Shaanxi province
  • The rubbish snakes around the buildings near a children's playground

If you thought your street had a problem with litter, spare a thought for the residents living near to this wave of rubbish.
The streets near these high-rise buildings were left completely covered in garbage in the Chinese city of Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi province.

These pictures show the full extent of the rubbish which has been left to pile up on the streets.
It is unclear however as to why the garbage has been left outside the buildings, although it is believed the rubbish has been left on the street for ten days.  Share
Earlier this year, MailOnline reported how passengers travelling on trains in China's biggest cities had been force to wade ankle deep through a sea of rubbish strewn across carriages.
Discarded food, crisp packets and old bits of fruit had been left to fester on the floor.
The problem had reached epic proportions ahead of the Chinese New Year.

Millions of people had been taking to the country's already crowded railways to head home before the celebrations tomorrow.
And many of the passengers appeared to find it pointless to seek out one of the overflowing rubbish bins.
Instead, they took to discarding their litter onto the pile collecting on the floor.
