The 5,300 km railway connecting the Atlantic and Pacific oceans is set to be pushed forward this week by Chinese infrastructure giant Li Keqiang with the backing of the China Development Bank. Supporters argue that it would reduce transport costs while critics are concerned over the impact it would have on some of the world’s most biodiverse forest and indigenous tribes.
