VANCOUVER ─ A new poll shows 40% of British Columbians oppose the federal government’s decision to conditionally approve the Northern Gateway Pipeline project.
The Angus Reid poll also reported Quebec residents were the other strongest opponents of the Enbridge project approved with 209 conditions on Tuesday.
In B.C., 22% said they were unsure about the project.
Albertans showed the most support for the pipeline at 58%, with 18% of people undecided.
"It's really a tale of two neighbours who have very little in common on this issue," said Angus Reid vice-president Shachi Kurl. The poll found past New Democrat voters were most opposed to the decision, though 16% of past Conservative voters also said it was the "wrong decision."
The survey was conducted on June 17 and 18 among 1,773 Canadian adults, with a margin of error of plus-or-minus 2.3%.
