The Wo Shing Wo Triad

The Wo Shing Wo Triad

A victim of Triad violence
The Triads are Chinese secret societies with a history stretching back 2,000
years. Governed by blood rituals, with members swearing loyalty until death,
the most feared is the Wo Shing Wo – the oldest established Triad in Hong
Kong – involved in extortion, gambling, prostitution, the drug trade and
slave labour. In fact, it was responsible for bringing to Britain the 23
slave labourers who died in the Morecambe Bay cockle-picker tragedy in 2004.
Today, with 10,000 members worldwide, the Triad’s methods remain ruthless,
and in August 2009, members killed rival gang leader Lee Tai-Hung by running
him over before hacking his body with beef knives.
