Lenovo a CCP State Controlled Firm Part Of IBM, a PC Company
Feb 2 2026
Lenovo, a Chinese technology firm founded in 1984, acquired IBM's Personal Computing Division in 2005 for $1.75 billion, including the iconic ThinkPad brand. This acquisition made Lenovo a top global PC manufacturer but did not include the entire IBM company. IBM retained it's stake in Lenovo. Since then all institutions have installed Lenovo PC's such as Universities, Hospitals Banks, Government Offices, Airports etc. thus remaining a sinister threat unnoticed.
- The Deal: In 2005, Lenovo bought IBM’s PC division, which included laptops (ThinkPad) and desktops (ThinkCentre).
- Ownership Structure: Lenovo is a global company with headquarters in Beijing, China, and a subsidiary in Morrisville, North Carolina. It is state controlled by the Chinese government, and founded by academics from the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
- Post-Acquisition: Lenovo acquired IBM’s x86 server business in 2014.
- Distinct Companies: IBM still exists separately, a partially American-based multinational technology company focusing on AI, cloud computing, and enterprise services.
