Stomachs are churning among Chinese beer lovers, after a worker was caught peeing into a tank of ingredients at the nation’s Tsingtao beer factory on a disgusting video.

The clip, which went viral last Thursday on China’s microblogging site Weibo, shows a man in uniform and a hard hat clambering into a container believed to hold raw ingredients for the beer and urinating inside.

Tsingtao Brewery, China’s second-largest beer producer, released a statement saying it was looking into the stomach-turning video, which was filmed at its plant located in the city of Pingdu.

“Our company attaches high importance to the relevant video that emerged from Tsingtao Brewery No. 3 on October 19,” the beer manufacturer stated, reported South China Morning Post. “We reported the incident to the police at the earliest opportunity, and public security agencies are involved in the investigation.”

“Once verified, we will handle this seriously in accordance with the law and regulations,” the agency warned.

Both the man who appeared to urinate in the video and the person who filmed it have been detained by the police, reported the state-owned outlet National Business Daily.

The outlet also said, citing an internal source familiar with the matter, that the duo were not direct employees of Tsingtao but rather external hires.

Tsingtao is one of China’s most popular beer brands and the country’s biggest exporter of brew.
