- May Day Holiday sees huge crowds flock to China's crowded beaches
- About 130,000 people were recorded at a single resort in Shenzhen
- Tonnes of rubbish left behind requires hundreds of volunteers to clean up
- Fines and government initiatives are put in force to help reduce littering
China's annual May Day holiday weekend has just passed by with locals seeking respite from the 30 degree temperatures at the beach.
However, 130,000 people had the same idea (pictured) and authorities have been left scrambling to clear tonnes of rubbish left behind by the chaotic crowds.
At least 60,000 people crowded into Dameisha Seaside Resort by 4pm over the annual break, but within two hours, crowd numbers had more than doubled to 130,000 - leaving behind a wasteland of rubbish.
In an effort to combat this mountain of trash the local authorities started their beach cleaning volunteer service with the slogan: 'Without rubbish on the ground Shenzhen is more beautiful,' The People's Daily reported.
Thousands of people swarm China's beaches as temperatures reach upwards of 30 degrees
Over the three day holiday weekend, one beach resort recorded 357,000 visitors to the water
The massive crowds are estimated to leave behind tonnes of rubbish every day
The littering has become so bad the local city council have launched an anti-littering campaign
With the May Day holidays in full swing the Dameisha resort used crowd control measures which restricted the number of people allowed to enter the resort.
And the resort's records showed it officially registered 130,000 visitors just after 6pm.
This was an increase of 10,000 compared to the same time last year, and marked a total of 357,000 over the 2014 three day holiday.
Remarkably, the recent Qing Ming Festival saw Dameisha visitors reach a daily peak figure of 90,000 with the resort needing to clear 50 tonnes of rubbish on a daily basis.
The huge number of visitors brings with it a number of issues that the resort has to deal with - the problem of waste being just one of them.
The entrance of the resort has a number of warning signs that inform visitors there are fines ranging from 50 – 200 yuan (£5 - £20) for litter louts.
This year Shenzhen City Management team have decided to launch an anti-litter campaign to coincide with the May Day holidays and have recruited 100 volunteers to help with the clean-up operation on the beach.
