Ex-prison guard gets four years for
accepting bribe from gang
Former Surrey prison guard Sedrick Dang, 26, was sentenced to four years in prison Monday, in Surrey provincial court, after the former Surrey Pre-Trial Centre guard pleaded guilty to accepting a bribe and breach of trust.
The forward suffered a broken jaw in Sunday’s 3-2 win over Carolina and is sidelined indefinitely.
The Surrey Now reports that the court heard Dang was paid $30,000 for sneaking contraband into the pretrial centre for United Nations gang members who were incarcerated there, between March 2011 and Nov. 2012. He made 14 deliveries, all told, and among the items he smuggled in were a screwdriver, steroids, and a cell phone.
Judge Kenneth Skilnick said Dang placed his fellow guards, as well as inmates, in jeopardy. He noted that Dang didn't check the packages he was smuggling into jail to see what they contained, and found "placing one's head in the sand" to be an aggravating factor in sentencing.

"Greed was a significant motivating factor... This is a serious breach, and a serious offence."- Judge Skilnick
