Geo-Map Takes Close Look at Canadian Businesses in Asia

Geo-Map Takes Close Look at Canadian Businesses in Asia

CANASIA MAP
By Reza Akhlaghi
The Munk School of Global Affairs at the University of Toronto has launched an interactive a map that details the presence of Canadian businesses in Asia. The map, entitled CANASIA FOOTPRINT, displays nearly 1200 locations of Canadian companies and organizations in Asia and offers various filtering features based on a company’s sector, country and provinces in which it operates. Based on publicly available data, this is a living, evolving map that helps illustrate the involvement of Canadian business community in Asia.
CCBC is pleased to distribute a China-specific report  based on the China data in the map, written by a team of students at the Munk School’s Capstone graduate course. The report has a particular focus on agrifood, cleantech and information communications technology (ICT) sectors. Another useful feature of the map, as the report explains, is how factors such as a company’s province of origin, size, market concentration, and available public information about it can help analyze business trends that pertain to Canadian businesses in Asia.
The map remains a work-in-progress. We hope our members will find the map and its interactive features and analyses of great interest and use. Canadian companies are welcome to add their own information via the Feedback link in the map to help make the map more dynamic and informative.
