Australia Still Refuses to Let Huawei Take Part in National Broadband Network AFP

In the summer of 2012, Australia decided to ban Chinese telecoms giant Huawei from bidding for the National Broadband Network (NBN), citing national security concerns. Now, the new government of Prime Minister Tony Abbott plans on maintaining the decision.
According to Attorney General George Brandis, cited by AFP, the government has had some discussions with national security agencies on the topic. Following these talks, it has been decided that the ban imposed by the previous government should be maintained.

Brandis has refused to go into detail regarding what security agencies have told the government.

Over the past period, Huawei has been trying to convince the Australia government to turn back on its initial decision. Actually, Huawei has been desperately trying to convince the entire world that it is not conducting cyber espionage operations for any government, unsuccessfully.

However, it would be surprising to see that Huawei’s reputation is cleared any time soon. US officials continue to make accusations and, now, even the United Kingdom government wants to take a closer look at Huawei’s operations.
