Chinese immigrant smuggler Cheng Chui Ping dies at 65 

Also known as Sister Ping, she operated a notorious Chinese human smuggling operation from her base in New York City’s Chinatown during the 1980s and 1990s. She died of cancer Thursday in a federal prison in Texas, according to a report.

Cheng Chui Ping, who operated a notorious Chinese human smuggling operation from her base in New York City’s Chinatown during the 1980s and 1990s, has died in federal prison in Texas, according to a report. She was 65.
Also known as Sister Ping, she smuggled thousands of Chinese immigrants into the United States.
She died of cancer Thursday, The New York Times reported. Arrested in 2000 in Hong Kong, Ping was later convicted in New York of hostage-taking and conspiring to commit alien smuggling, among other counts.
