MAS Dismisses Reports Five Had Checked In But Did Not Board Missing Flight
KUALA LUMPUR, March 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia Airlines (MAS) today dismissed reports that five people had checked in but did not board its flight to Beijing that went missing last Saturday.
It clarified in a statement that four people did not turn up to check in for Flight MH370 although they had booked to travel on that flight.
"As such, the issue of off-loading unaccompanied baggage did not arise as the said four passengers did not check in for the flight," the airline said.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar today denied there were five such people and said all passengers who checked in had gone on the flight.
Department of Civil Aviation director-general Datuk Azharuddin Abdul Rahman said yesterday that the baggage of five people who checked in but did not board the flight was removed from the aircraft and was found to be 'clean'.
The Boeing 777-200ER aircraft, carrying 227 passengers and 12 crew, disappeared about an hour after taking off from the KL International Airport at 12.41 am on Saturday.
It was scheduled to have landed in Beijing at 6.30 am on the same day.
