On May 9, His Excellency Zhang Junsai, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Canada, paid an official visit to Alberta.
Ambassador Zhang met with Honorable Ed Stelmach, Premier of Alberta.
Ambassador Zhang reviewed China's relations with Canada and Alberta and briefed Premier Stelmach about his visit to Alberta.
Ambassador Zhang said that China and Alberta enjoy long-term friendly cooperation. He hoped that the two sides will work together to advance their partnership in energy, resource, agriculture, science, technology, tourism and education to a new level, in order to benefit the Chinese and Canadian people.
Premier warmly greeted Ambassador Zhang and said that Alberta is the fastest growing province in Canada while China is the fastest growing economy worldwide. Alberta-China cooperation has huge potential. Alberta values its sister-province relations with Heilongjiang as well as other provinces of China and is willing to facilitate more joint projects that serve the interest of both sides. Alberta is open to more investment from Chinese companies and looks forward to seeing more Chinese tourists.
Ambassador Zhang and his wife Yin Guomei arrived in Calgary on May 7 and later attended a reception hosted in their honor by Mme Liu Yongfeng, Chinese Consul-General in Calgary. Also at the reception were around 50 representatives from local Chinese communities.
Before the reception, Ambassador Zhang also met representatives from Chinese companies in Calgary, during which he was briefed on Chinese companies' investment and business operation in Alberta. Ambassador Zhang was accompanied by Consul-General Liu and the Chinese Embassy's Economic and Commercial Minister Counselor Mr. Jiang Shan.
