Richmond BC, Chinese based ride-hailing service gets B.C.-wide approval

Greater Victoria finally has its first ride-hailing company.
The Passenger Transportation Board announced Friday that Richmond-based Kabu Ride Inc. has been approved to offer ride-hailing services in all regions of the province, including the Capital Regional District.
Kabu, run by Yi (Billy) Xiong, intends to start operating immediately in the Lower Mainland, Greater Victoria and Nanaimo.
It intends to expand to Kelowna [Okanagan] and Kamloops within the next year.
There are no fleet limits imposed on ride-hailing services, and Kabu has not indicated how many cars it expects to have on the road in Greater Victoria.
Ride-hailing giants Uber and Lyft are approved to operate on the Lower Mainland. Tofino-based Green Coast ventures was the first to be approved in B.C., in December. Doing business as Whistle and WhistleRide, Green Coast has launched its service in Tofino and Whistler.
Five firms that hoped to operate in the capital region were turned down by the Passenger Transportation Board, including Inorbis Corporation and Tappcar Inc., which were rejected this week.
