Chinese Embassy in Canada hosts reception for the 84th anniversary of the People's Liberation Army

On July 27, the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Canada hosted a reception in celebration of the 84th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) as well as to bid farewell to Senior Colonel Cai Ping and welcome Senior Colonel Li Daozhong as the Embassy’s new Defense AttachĂ©. Also present at the reception were Vice-Admiral Bruce Donaldson, Vice Chief of the Defense staff, Vice-Admiral Paul Maddison, Chief of the Maritime Staff, Mr. Xu bu, chargĂ© d'affaires ad interim of the Embassy along with around 300 representatives from the Canadian forces, government, diplomatic missions and overseas Chinese community.
Mr. Xu marked the 84th anniversary of the PLA and expressed his appreciation for all in Canada that has contributed to the growth of China-Canada relationship over the years. Mr. Xu spoke highly of Senior Colonel Cai’s work during his eight-year tenure in Canada and welcomed Senior Colonel Li to his new post.
Senior Colonel Cai briefed the guests about China’s defense policy, PLA’s history and mission in the new century, stressing that China is committed to deepening mutual trust and expanding common interest with other countries through security cooperation and that China has all along delivered on its own international responsibilities and obligations. Senior Colonel Cai thanked his friends in Canada for their generous support and hoped that they will continue to assist Senior Colonel Li and play an active role in strengthening China-Canada relationship and military exchanges.
Senior Colonel Li expressed his willingness to work with his Canadian friends and colleagues to further promote the exchange and cooperation between the two countries and the Chinese and Canadian forces.
The guests offered their warm congratulations on the anniversary of PLA’s founding and attended a photo exhibit on PLA’s history, military exchange as well as its participation in UN peacekeeping operations and post-disaster relief.
