Huawei has released an official roadmap for the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update (Reuters)

Chinese smartphone maker Huawei has released an official roadmap for the rollout of Android 6.0 Marshmallow update to its devices.

Over the last few years, most of the bigger mobile OEMs, including HTC, Motorola, Samsung, and LG, have been quick to update their devices to the latest Android version. LG just announced that it would roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for the LG G4 flagship smartphone from next week. Following the recently leaked unofficial list of all devices that would receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, other smartphone manufacturers also released their own roadmaps for the rollout of their firmware update.

However, the smaller mobile OEMs and most of the big Chinese handset manufacturers continue to lag behind in rolling out firmware updates for the latest Android version. Huawei has a particularly bad reputation when it comes to releasing Android updates and a number of its flagships are still running older versions of Google's mobile operating system. This time, Huawei has been quick to officially announce its roadmap for releasing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update and has promised to upgrade a number of Chinese variants of its handsets.

Huawei has confirmed 15 models (via GizmoChina) that would be eligible to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, including the Huawei P8, Huawei Mate 7, Huawei Mate S, Huawei P8 Youth Edition, Huawei P8 Max, Huawei G8 Chinese variant, Huawei G7 Plusv, Huawei G7, Huawei Honor 7, Huawei Honor 7i, Huawei Honor 6 Plus, Huawei Honor 6, Huawei X2, Huawei 4X and Huawei Play 4C.

However, all these devices will not receive stock Android and will run Huawei's EMUI (Emotion UI) on top of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Huawei has confirmed that it will begin working on the update sometime in November, but has not provided any timeline for rolling out the update to its listed devices. Moreover, the handsets officially confirmed to be eligible for the Android update are Chinese variants and it is not yet known whether their international variants will also receive the firmware update.
