Fil-Am group urges worldwide boycott of Chinese-made products

By Ron E.j. Carleon

A group of Filipino-Americans (Fil-Ams) has renewed its call for a worldwide boycott of products made in China to protest the bullying of the giant communist nation of its much-smaller neighbors in the South China Sea.
In a report from ABS-CBN’s Balitang America, the US Pinoys for Good Governance (USP4GG) is urging Filipinos from around the world to stop buying Chinese goods and merchandise to demonstrate our collective stand against China’s aggression with its illegal occupation of territories also claimed by the Philippines.
The legal counsel for USP4GG, Atty. Ted Laguatan, said such move may not be so easy but it is important to express the sentiment of the Filipino people against China’s dismissive and rascal attitude towards less powerful countries like the Philippines.
“We know that this is a difficult thing to ask people to stop buying products from China but this has to be done eventually,” Laguatan told Balitang America.
“But this is an important thing to express to the Filipino people that China is engaged in aggressive behavior.”
He also criticized China, liking the communist state to a rogue nation and a ‘non-civilized’ member of international community.
“Therefore, their attempt to get these oil resources of the Philippines by building these military bases on Philippine territory should be stopped,” Laguatan added.
The USP4GGG not only calls for a global boycott of China-made goods but also urged Catholics worldwide through a resolution asking everyone to pray for world peace and protection from Chinese aggression.
The group is set to launch the anti-Chinese campaign in time for the Philippine Independence Day on June 12.
Laguatan said they are targeting US companies that are selling Chinese goods like Walmart, Apple and Target.
Three years ago, a similar campaign to boycott Chinese-made products was initiated by Global Pinoy Diaspora Canada in 2012 in the heat of the Philippine-China standoff in Spratly’s, which is sadly, now occupied by China and where massive reclamation and construction works is going on
