A 44-year-old Bridgeport man has been charged with pretending to be a Chicago police officer at a Chinatown restaurant, police said today.

Hong Chu, 44, of the 3300 block of South Throop Street, was charged with false personation of a peace office, a felony, according to police.
Chu was expected to appear in court today on the charge but information about the hearing was not available immediately.

A hostess at Ming Hin restaurant at 2168 S. Archer Ave. called police Thursday about 9:30 p.m. after she saw Chu walking in and out of the restaurant multiple times, a police report said.

She confronted Chu, who said: “I’m the police; I do translating on the South Side,’’ and pulled out his wallet and showed her what looked like a Chicago police star, a walkie-talkie radio, and handcuffs, the report said.

The woman called police, who found him standing outside the eatery.
