The world doping authority is doing its best to extinguish the furore around the Chinese doping scandal but clean athletes like US swim star Katie Ledecky are having none of it:

In a shocking move on Wed July 24, the IOC moved to crush US inquiries into the Chinese swimming doping scandal, by threatening to reject Salt Lake City's bid to host the Winter Games in 2034. In a series of fierce statements coordinated by IOC President Thomas Bach, top IOC committee members blasted US officials for opening probes into handling of the China case by WADA. Ingmar De Vos, an IOC committee member from Belgium said a probe by the US Congress and a criminal investigation launched by the US Department of Justice "are extremely worrying and basically, for us, unacceptable." In an unprecedented move, the IOC demanded that officials in Utah — along with US Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) — sign a contract affirming "respect" for the authority of WADA in exchange for Wednesday's agreement to hold the 2034 Winter Games in Salt Lake City. The chair of the USOPC Gene Sykes agreed to the binding language. Head of the US Anti-Doping Agency Travis Tygart blasted the IOC for linking the China scandal to Salt Lake City's bid. "It is shocking to see the IOC itself stooping to threats in an apparent effort to silence those seeking answers. It seems more apparent than ever that WADA violated the rules and needs accountability and reform."

Two more of the Chinese swimmers in the 2021 doping scandal qualify for the semifinals in the men’s 100 breaststroke. They were among the 23 whose positive drug tests were never revealed by WADA and China in 2021.

Another of the Chinese 11 swims well here in the first morning of Olympic swimming. Fei Liwei qualifies third in the men’s 400. That’s four of the 11. They were part of the 23 whose positive drug tests were never revealed by authorities in 2021.

In recent months, China has urged Canada to work on shared priorities and draw less attention to disagreements.

Joly’s visit follows Canadian security officials flagging Chinese interference as the country’s greatest strategic threat, a charge Beijing rejects.

Kovrig and Spavor were both convicted of spying in 2021 in closed Chinese courts. Canada and many allies said the process amounted to arbitrary detention on bogus charges in an unaccountable justice system.

The U.S. worked out a deferred prosecution agreement in Meng’s case, allowing for her release, and Beijing permitted the two Michaels, as they came to be known, to fly home in September 2021.

Global Affairs Canada said in a statement Thursday morning that Joly would meet her counterpart in China to discuss Canada-China relations and security issues.

“As the world faces increasingly complex and intersecting global issues, Canada is committed to engaging pragmatically with a wide range of countries to advance our national interests and uphold our values,” Joly wrote in a statement.

2h All banks should collapse. Start over back on the gold standard. The dollar needs to be backed by something, not someone’s word. End the fed and end the Rockefeller system. Let the government ask for money to build by selling bonds. If we dont approve, we dont buy the bonds. Bottom line. No more unchecked government spending.

@silversniper1 There is truth to your statement. In a perfect capitalist system the tarrifs may cause an imported product to be more expensive. This should pave the way for a domestic company to manufacture that product instead of making China rich. The US got away from manufacturing, though.

@skuddmissile the government used to run lotteries to fund certain projects if you like the project you bought into the lottery. The income tax was originally set up to offset the loss from taxing alcohol when prohibition ended so should have the income tax

@silversniper1 it might force more manufacturing in America. So much of what we import could be made/or grown here in America. We need to be less independent on others for what our own people can create. Just a thought.
